The Biblical baby name Lot is Hebrew in origin and its meaning is a covering, veil.
Lot is pronounced lote. Lot was a son of Haran, and nephew of Abraham. He accompanied Abraham and Sarah to Canaan and Egypt, but later separated from them to settle in the fertile plains of Sodom. When God decided to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah due to the sinful ways of the people, He sent two angels in disguise to check if there be any righteous men living there. Lot met the angels and offered them food and lodgings for the night. When a mob gathered outside Lot's house to demand he hand over the strangers to them, he refused and instead offered his own daughters. The angels struck the mob with blindness, and revealed God's plan to destroy Sodom to Lot and advised him to escape with his family. Lot fled Sodom with his wife and two daughters. His wife disobeyed the angels' command not to look back at Sodom, and became a pillar of salt. After incestuous seductions by his daughters, Lot fathered two sons Moab and Benammi, who founded the nations of the Moabites and the Ammonites.
